Has the FI website (https://www.football-italia.net/) been unstable for others recently?

For me it's taking a long time to load, often not loading at all and displaying an error message. It's like this on 2 separate computers I use too.

The mobile site seems fine, but I hardly ever use that.

Yeah going by their comments on their twitter account they know they have a problem but don't know how to fix it.

To be honest, aside from the loading issues the last few weeks, the integrity of their news articles have been on a downward spiral for the last 6 months as well, some of the stories don't even have a source, they're just hearsay. So many incorrect facts too. Then there's the off field 'drama' stories. The site is awful now.
I wish someone would just run a site that reports just on facts and sticks just to the on field and club news.

Obviously, it's my own fault for reading the crap, but their headlines are so misleading lately you never know what the story is going to be about just from the headline or first paragraph.

It's awfully biased too since Richard Hall started writing the articles, almost every second story is about Inter, or else derogatory of Milan or Juve.

Unless they seriously overhaul their whole approach, and the design and interactivity of the site i think it will end up closing soon enough. They were building a new website last year that was due out in January i think, don't know what happened to that.

If it dies, someone else will do another site, and probably a better one, with a better business model too, like native advertising and a shop selling calcio merchandise.

Thanks Myles, it's sort of nice to know it's not just me.

The headlines on the site have been misleading for years, presumably to whip up controversy that isn't there for clicks.

It seems to have been back to normal the last couple of days.

The android app is a bit mixed up today. The first paragraph previews don't match the story in the article when you click into it. No biggie though.

This is total bullshit. FI joining the social media boycott in support of against online abuse when i asked Susy a few years ago why they don't just block all the people abusing her and she said she wasn't allowed to block those followers by Tiro Media.
Obviously because it would reduce clicks.
FI is like buzzfeed or gawker. Rag.

Money tends to override everything unfortunately, so more clicks will often win over doing the right thing. I don't think the boycott from anyone will achieve anything, the social media companies won't care until they start losing money because of it, or government's force them to change.

As for the FI site, it's started having a lot more clickbait in the last year or two. I hope it doesn't end up becoming like the local newspaper sites in England which are 90% clickbait these days, which means I subsequently refuse to look at them.

The FI site has had it's long awaited overhaul. It seems a bit slow though, is harder to find news stories, and some links don't seem to be working.

It's also become one of those sites with too many pictures, which means it's wasting too much space, and it takes longer and is more difficult to find things.

Then again the old design, or variations on it had been there for 20 years or more so maybe I'm just getting used to it.

They still have the autoplaying video which is the main cause of slowness, and an awful practice. If they have to rely on autoplaying videos maybe it's not a viable business anymore. I don't understand why they don't try native advertising, where some articles are sponsored so have a slightly different shade background to indicate it's sponsored.

I agree with Liam in that scrolling down for ages on mobile to get from one article of interest to the next is a pain.

I haven't checked it out on a desktop device yet but the page loading on a mobile phone is so slow it's unusable.

I'm on a desktop, which is where I do nearly all my web browsing.

On the news page they have the following sections:
- Main stories in large at the top which seems to alternate between 3.
- 3 columns with latest news stories.
- "Latest" club news, which features out of date stories.
- More news, which also has old stories.
- A larger section at the bottom of the screen which is more like the old list, except there's a lot of pictures taking up all the space.

Overall it's a much more frustrating experience to find news, and I'm convinced I'm missing stories I'd like to read as I keep seeing stories I previously missed.

The layout of the Football Espana site seems better, as atleast the news stories are in a logical order, with one main section going all down the page, and a couple of smaller sections with most popular stories at the side.

It seems Football Espana isn't owned by the same company as Football Italia any more though.

I agree with you Liam on the desktop site, don't really like it, but perhaps we'll get use to it.

Mobile version seems to be better than before, it just seems more logically laid out, and i guess this is where the growth in traffic is, so I guess it makes sense for them to do that.

I've always used their feed for their app when on mobile and desktop for a good few years now so i guess i can't really compare before and after on their conventional mobile experience.

This is what i have bookmarked.
https://app.football-italia.net/#menu=news-all
I use that because it doesn't have the autoplay video.
The only drawbacks are you have to tap their return button instead of your device's return button. Also, whenever the feed stops updating on their app, then it doesn't update, like now, the most recent article is 5 hours old but obviously there's loads of new articles since. Usually that only happens about once per month though. Oh, and also the blogs don't load in that feed but i couldn't be bothered with them.

I can't even see the story announcing Allegri's return anywhere on the site. The News page won't load at all.

Italy are playing a game right now and there's nothing on the site. On the App site there is a link to a live page though.

I see what you mean by all this, i don't find it intuitive, it's a bit headache inducing.

I can't figure out the site on mobile either, the proper site as opposed to the feed for the app.
It's got the same three columns that Liam mentions, as one column, which is normal but it has the three main stories but not one after the other, and the main stories aren't really main stories, they're chronological, and every 4th or 5th story is a main story by default rather than by relevance. Then the 'smaller' stories pictures are too small so can't really make out what they are at a glance.
I think if you have 'main' stories then they should be determined by either relevance or click numbers, as ultimately the customers should be deciding what are the main stories.
Then the latest club news doesn't link to do anything/work, is it supposed to be clickable?, not sure what is meant by it anyway as isn't almost every story related to a club?

A lot of the time it takes ages to load on mobile, and if it does then even more times the images don't load, then sometimes i get 500 server errors.

It looks like they picked the wrong template for the news page, they should've picked one with just all the news articles listed in chronological order, maybe the first three articles slightly bigger if that's what they want, even listed similar to the old site but maybe more modern look like they have.

I always feel functionality and click-flow should be done first before trying to make it look modern. I would use a 20 year old design that is intuitive and make logical sense to use before trying to make it look good, but obviously you can have both intuitive functionality and modern design, i just think it's fundamental to get the functionality correct first and good design doesn't necessarily mean the latest trends. Just my opinion though.

Should i use a website carousel (slider)?

https://www.google.ie/search?q=should+i ... s-wiz-serp

Sliders were a trend that turned out were giving a poor user experience and their general use stopped at least 5 years ago. The website must be using a really old template so probably chose it because it was free. Plus the website template is more for a software product rather than a news website. It's an example of 'you get what you pay for', which in this case was probably zero.

When the website has the translated newspaper headlines in the slider and you click into it, it brings you to a page with another slider (sort of a slider inception), giving you about 2 seconds to read all the headlines before it slides to the next newspaper

They really need to scrap it and pay for a proper modern news template.

The carousel thing seems to have gone on the desktop version, but is still on the mobile. On mobile it does look strange as the 3 columns obviously aren't next to each other, so it's as if you scroll down past 1 main story, which is the big picture, and then 3 smaller ones, and then another main story appears, 3 smaller ones, and then 1 more main story.

It's a strange way to organise it, and I feel the old app site worked absolutely fine as a mobile site, even if it wasn't very modern.

The carousel was gone from the home page but still on the news page earlier, that was a few hours ago last i checked.

The news page on mobile always seems to load some Blankety Blank type guessing game.
