It's all Greek to me. :dunno:
If someone forgets their password so clicks on the 'I forgot my password' link at login, then it will bring the user here > user/forgot_password

There they can submit their email address to get the password reset, or if that doesn't work (like in Duncan's case) then it advises the user to email resetpassword[at]footballitaliaforo.com

The issue with the password reset might not be a fault with the forum code but instead either the hoster or even the domain for the email address may be blacklisted. I'll have investigate more but it takes longer than the time i have in the evenings so i'll park it until i have a day with a longer run at it, so in the meantime i can get fixing the look of the forum.

I've merged the posts from the 'Forum updates (GDPR)' and the 'Forum upgrade' thread.
I probably should've just made the first thread a sticky instead of creating a new one. :dunno:

Private messages
Previously you could create 10 folders, this has been increased to 100 folders.
Previously 50 messages, increased to 1,000 messages in each folder.

So you can actually have 100 folders, each of 1,000 messages (+plus 1,000 in your inbox), so you can have 101,000 received messages stored in your PM's.
There's no limit to attachments in PM's, so images, pdf's, doc's etc all good.
The process of creating a folder in your PM is not as slick as doing it in email providers like gmail or yahoo mail, but it's functional and logical to follow, hopefully i can make it more seemless in the future but it's not priority this month anyway.

Private messages are just that though, they are private, hence encrypted, so i won't know if you are having an issue with someone, so if you are experiencing harassment let me know, i'll have your back.

I don't use PM's much myself but i'm guessing how you might use folders to keep it neat would be to create folders for the user's that you most communicate with, then move their messages into the folder named them.

Cookies change

The cookies will be changed this week.
It's a technical change to correct the configuration to bring it inline with best practice, basically it will sync the www. version of the website with the non-www. version and eliminate side-effects that this can cause to user's experience (i.e. being logged out unexpectedly), and also allow sub-domains in future if there was ever a need but regardless of any sub-domains it should be done anyway.

This will result in everyone being logged off as the old cookies won't work when the change is implemented, and i'm hoping to implement it on Friday, if offline testing on Thursday passes.

So basically, you will need to log in again on Friday.

If your browser normally saves your password for this website then that won't be affected.

I'll post when testing passes to confirm the exact time it's happening on Friday, to minimize the chances of anyone being in the middle of typing a post.

Apologies in advance for the inconvenience.

The cookies will be changed tomorrow, Friday, at 9am irish and UK time.

It should only take a few minutes.

I'll post when it's done.

The cookies have been changed.

So you will need to login again. That's all you have to do, the info i've typed below is just an FYI if you want more detail.

The username and password fields will still populate with your saved values, if you have previously instructed your browser to do that, as that is done by your browser, not the website.

You will have to re-enable the Remember me box as that status is saved by the website.

You shouldn't normally enable Remember me on a public machine (i.e. public library, internet cafe). If you are ever worried about having enabled this before now, it won't matter because the cookies have been changed so all previous Remember me instances are now defunct, however, if you ever have concerns in the future you can delete all the saved instances of the Remember me values in the User Control Panel>Profile, which is here > https://footballitaliaforo.com/ucp.php? ... login_keys
Deleting all the values will just mean you will have to enable Remember me again on your home/private/trusted devices again. Which you can do by logging out and in again and enabling Remember me on that particular device.

The screenshot below shows the three old and three new cookies, there is only one character change, from 'q' to 's'.
foroforum_jrz3q are the old cookies and can be deleted by you if you wish, it doesn't matter or make a difference whether you delete them or not, because they are defunct now anyway.
foroforum_jrz3s are the new cookies

This cookie change will resolve issues relating to logging in or staying logged in, in cases where the issue was due to the website. It won't necessarily resolve issues locally for users (i.e. their browser, human behaviour winkface )

Sorry Verno, i'm an idiot.
I apologize.

I work in IT support and a lot of the time the issue is perceived to be caused by human behaviour, but the real issue is actually caused by the software interface that leads to the human making the wrong choice, which means the software interface is the cause, not the human behaviour.
A lot of the time if the human clicks the wrong link or button it is the fault of the interface, not the fault of the human.

An example we all know... if when you click on a link on the foro and it brings you back to the index (home) page instead of the page that lists all the thread titles (forum1.php). This is a fault with the foro, not the user. Technically, it's not a fault with the software platform because the software is designed to house multiple forums, but it's a fault in the foro case because we only have one forum. (Off topic, in this case i can't just fix code on the foro to 'make it work' but it has consequences on functionality.)

Anyway, sorry i didn't mean to pick on you or anyone else in particular, so sorry about that.

It was really just a whimsical joke about human behaviour but bad timing as i can see how it can be aimed at yourself, so sorry about that.
Also i can see how it can put people off reporting issues in future, which is not what i want so absolutely i'm wrong here.
Please keep reporting issues here or via PM, no matter how big or small the issue.

Argh. Myles, mate, I was joking/being sarky/using Twitter lingo. It was a 'joke' aimed squarely at my own self. Apologies.

The 'Not secure' issue in the browser is being investigated.
Should be resolved soon.
