There will be an upgrade to the backend and frontend tomorrow, Friday. :computerpunches:

The upgrade is necessary for security of the website but also so i can start implementing some new features.

It's a fairly big upgrade so you may experience some forum downtime interruptions initially, then the colours and layout of the forum might be different while i make it look the same as we are accustomed.

I can't give exact times because i'm still documenting which code will need to be restored for the colours and layout, so i still haven't even done a test run of the upgrade yet, so the real thing might not happen until the afternoon GMT.

You can keep posting though, as the final backup of the database will be taken after i take the forum momentarily offline. So if posting is working then your post will remain.

I'll post tomorrow when the downtime is finished and moved onto changing the layout back to 'our normal'.

The first test upgrade resulted in fatal errors  so i'll debug it or use a different method, anyway nothing will be happening on the live forum today.

A test done today using a different approach worked without issues.

I have to do another test to confirm the first test so will be Monday or Tuesday night before the live board is upgraded.

Then after it's upgraded the board will be fully functional but it will look something like the image shown below for a further 24 hours until I update the frontend files.

Should the upgrade go badly then critical updates will be communicated on the twitter account > https://twitter.com/calcioitalia,
However, ultimately it is not a worry as I can restore to the current version from a final backup, but i might decide to fix issues rather than start over again, either way it will be done in plenty of time before the next weekend's games (if there are any!) so as not to disrupt the prediction games.

The upgrade won't be done before the start of the CL games on Wednesday so it doesn't affect anyone trying to play Dels' CL prediction game.

The forum has been upgraded successfully :clappinghandsjumping: , with no issues (it was never in doubt :ninja: ), so you can post again now.

Obviously the colour is blue and the layout is different but i'll change it back to the way it looked before, over the next day or two.

Then i can start working on new features.

Looking good, Myles

Duncan wasn't able to log on last night, i'm not sure if it's related to the upgrade yet as i won't be able to troubleshoot it until later this evening but if anyone else has had an issue logging in with a particular browser or a particular device (mobile, laptop or desktop), yet were able to log on with another device/browser, if you can let me know that would be great.

It happened because of the upgrade but i should have known it.
So the root cause was, if someone went to http it didn't redirect to the secure https.
The secure aspect wasn't compromised because it wouldn't allow you to log on to the non-secure protocol http anyway but it should have automatically redirected to https in a seamless behaviour, but it's no doubt frustrating for anyone yesterday who wasn't able to log in, if it was me i would've been annoyed :scolding: so i appreciate the patience from anyone who did experience it, and thanks to Duncan for reporting it too.

It was basically just two lines of rewrite code missing that force the redirect of http to https should anyone land on http.

Anyway, I've recorded it for future upgrades so I don't make the same mistake twice, hopefully! :pointblackrefusing:

While the issue described above was an issue that need to be fixed, it turns out the password reset feature is not functioning correctly for all users, so Duncan wasn't able to reset his password either.

I've given Duncan a password he can use until i can fix the reset function which i think might be malfunctioning because there are some rows in some of the database tables that were deprecated when i did some edits on the forum about 6 months ago, it's going to take a while to go through the whole database so the password reset function may not work for a good while, so i'll setup an alias email address that people can use if they need me to give them a new password, as a workaround until it's fixed.
An alias email address is so i can post it (it will then get spammed), but then i can delete it when it's no longer needed and not get spammed anymore.
