In our meetings England have won 8 times, drawn twice and lost twice.
So you do lose to England. A lot. *

Petty mode engaged.

England didn't lose the war with America anyway. The United Kingdom did.

Technicalities. lol

But King George was English wasn't he?
Serious question- Did Scotland and Wales really want to fight in it? I know my distant grandfather from Scotland got forced into coming here to fight in the War of 1812, got captured by the Americans, and when released he decided to stay here instead of going back to Edinburgh. Traveled to what was the Indiana territory at the time and got free land.

From George the first onward they are Germans. The last Stuart monarch was Queen Anne (She oversaw the creation of the Union in 1707).
The next monarch to have a drop of British blood was our late Queen Elizabeth the second.

Who knows if anyone wanted to fight but fight they had to. Sounds like your relative got a good deal out of it though.

Thanks for the monarch info. I knew there was German blood in the line but never really cared to look into that stuff. I had a cousin who was really into the monarchy history and stuff, but being a good American, I could care less.........lol

I find it interesting from a historical aspect. Dunno how much longer it will carry on. Seems a bit daft in this day & age.

It does. Especially as the older folk who were interested in it pass away.

The average Scot probably didn't want to go to war. But the powers that be that were Scottish would have, there were certain Scots who had much to lose and would happily sent soldiers to die for those assets. There are many Scots who benefited from British colonialism, it wasn't just an English thing.

George I was German. He was King James I & IV great-great grandson. So George's grandson George III would have been James' great-great-great-great grandson. So more Scottish than English, but German mostly, probably.

I like this stuff too from a historical point but I cannot stand them.

Well this is a different convo than usual, lol.

I couldn't believe it when Jorginho tried his little penalty routine again, surely by now you just want to smash one in???

Game overall was good plenty of attacking intent, good to see

Jorginho's penalty technique is so poor, any coach should be able to see that.

Any penalty technique that involves slowing down in the run up is a poor one and the player is more likely to miss.

Italy made it in the end, although from afar it seems like there's a constant drama around the team, not helped by Mancini's resignation of course.
